Part -time Assistant Bookkeeper / Payroll Administrator
Salary: $22.22 per hour
Department: Bookkeeping in cooperation with Township Clerk,
Treasurer, and Supervisor
Schedule: Part-Time, Average
of 20-25 hours/week, up to 29 hours/week maximum.
Potential working hours: 8:30am-5:00pm Monday – Thursday, 8:00-4:00 Friday

Position Overview: Accurately
and timely processing payroll using ADP Workforce Now, ensuring compliance with
Township policy, labor laws, tax regulations, and maintaining detailed employee
records. This involves calculating
wages, managing deductions, and responding to employee inquiries.
This
position reports to the Highland Township Clerk, Treasurer and Supervisor.
Essential Job
Functions:The following tasks are
representative and are not to be considered all-inclusive.
Processing
accurate and timely payroll on a bi-weekly basis, ensuring compliance with
labor laws and tax regulations.
Maintain accurate
and secure employee payroll records, training records, and benefits
records.
Process and
monitor payroll deductions for taxes, benefits, and other employee pay.
Investigate and
resolve any payroll discrepancies or employee inquiries.
Prepare
payroll-related reports for internal and external use.
Assist with
day-to-day HR tasks, including maintaining employee records and managing
HR documents. Acting as a point of contact for employee HR-related
inquiries.
Administrative
support for onboarding of new employees and status changes of existing
employees.
Assisting with
other accounting tasks as needed.
Qualifications:
Knowledge
of:
· Standard
office support practices and procedures, including the use of standard office
equipment.
· Computer
applications related to the work, including word processing, spreadsheet, and
database applications.
· Strong
math skills and solid understanding of accounting principles.
· Proficient
in Microsoft Office or similar programs
· Techniques
for providing a high level of customer service to the public and Township
staff, in person, over the telephone, and through electronic communication.
· Strong
analytical and problem-solving skills and strong attention to detail
· Safe
work practices.
Ability
to:
· Review
and verify the accuracy of data.
· Ability
to work independently and as part of a team.
· Provide
discretion and confidentiality for handling sensitive employee information.
· Work
with moderate noise level.
· Organize
your own work, set priorities, and meet critical deadlines.
· Enter
and retrieve data from a computer with sufficient speed and accuracy to perform
assigned work.
· Provide
exceptional customer service to coworkers, and the public.
· Prepare
clear and concise reports, correspondence, procedures, and other written
materials.
· Use
English effectively to communicate in person, over the telephone, and in
writing.
· Establish
and maintain effective working relationships with employees and those contacted
in the course of work.
· Operate
modern office equipment including computers and supporting word processing,
spreadsheet, and database applications.
Education & Experience: Requires
one-year certificate from college or technical school; or 1 year of related
experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and
experience.
Additional Requirements: An
acceptable general background check to include a local and state criminal
history check and a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.

Election Worker
In order to successfully run our elections, Highland hires a staff of paid workers to work at the polls. Precinct inspectors are people who are paid to assist voters at the polls on Election Day. A precinct inspector must be a registered voter of the State. They cannot be a challenger, candidate, member of a candidate's immediate family, or a member of the local Board of Canvassers.
