The Treasurer's Office is responsible for collecting and investing all the account receivables (incoming monies) due to the township. Property taxes collected for Highland Township, the State of Michigan, Oakland County, Oakland Community College, Huron Valley Schools and various special assessments are also billed and collected here.
The Treasurer, by statute, is required to collect and take charge of all the funds that belong to the Township or funds which are required by law to be paid into the township treasury. The Treasurer also distributes and accounts for all monies according to law or Township board decision. Highland Township has adopted an investment policy that is certified by the "Association of Public Treasurer's, United States and Canada". This investment policy is directed by Public Act 20 to keep your tax dollars in the safest investment vehicles on the market.

About our Building Department
Building Department staff work with property owners and builders to navigate the construction permitting process and to administer and enforce the Building Codes.
The Building Codes have been established for the health, safety, and welfare of the community. When the codes are followed, our buildings are safely constructed for the greatest protection against fire as well as health and safety issues such as cross connection of water systems or electrical system safety, just to name a few.
The Building Department watches over current building projects to make sure that the codes are being met, which include the Building Code, the Plumbing, Electrical, and Mechanical Codes. Code enforcement plays a significant role in the development of the community, not only in the construction of new buildings and structures, but also in the renovation and repair of older buildings and structures.
The Building Department also includes the Ordinance Department, which enforces the general ordinances of the Township.
