Businesses or individuals who wish to solicit door-to-door in Highland Township must obtain a permit from the Township. The process for obtaining a permit involves completing an application, passing a background check, and paying a fee. Out of state companies are required to provide an insurance bond. The application requires information about the business, each individual soliciting, and all vehicles in use.
All solicitors are required to carry the permit with them. It’s a good idea to ask anyone who comes to your door to show you their permit. Permits are printed on Township letterhead and have the Township logo at the top.
Soliciting is only all owed between the hours of 8am and 9pm.
If residents are ever suspicious or uncomfortable with any solicitor activities or have determined that the person(s) do not have the proper paperwork please contact the Sheriff’s Department non-emergency dispatch number 248-858-4950, they do answer this phone number as 911 but simply indicate that it is not an emergency, to request an Officer to investigate.
