How and when do I get my dog's license?
Dog licenses are available in early December at the Treasurer's Office, local veterinarians, or at Oakland County Animal Control located at 1700 Brown Road, Auburn Hills, (telephone 248-391-4100). The deadline to purchase dog licenses, without penalty is June 1. Beginning June 2 the fee is increased to $30.00.
Dogs are required by Michigan State Law to be licensed every year. To obtain a license, proof of current rabies vaccination is needed.
License fees are as follows:

$15.00 if dog is not spayed or neutered
If the owner of a pet is a senior citizen (65 years or older):
$ 6.75 if dog is spayed or neutered
$13.50 if dog is not spayed or neutered
If purchased June 1st or later:
Three year licenses are also available for dogs that have a current 3 year rabies vaccination. The vaccination must cover the 3 year license time frame. The cost is 3 times the cost of a 1 year license.
Exceptions to the June 1st fee increase:

New dog (within 30 days)
Dog just turned four months of age (within 30 days)
